Kaura insists on victory in Zamfara North APC senatorial primary

By IBRAHIM KANOMA, Gusau

The senator described the alleged abduction of the panel chairman as an attempt to truncate democracy, insisting that the electorate would not accept such an action.

Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura has insisted that his declaration as the winner of the Zamfara North Senatorial District primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was genuine and reflected the outcome announced by members of the electoral panel deployed by the party’s national headquarters.

Addressing newsmen at his country home in Kaura Namoda, the senator alleged that the chairman of the electoral panel was abducted by some undemocratic elements and taken to an unknown destination in an attempt to undermine the primary election.

Kaura claimed that while the panel chairman was allegedly held against his will, he independently announced a purported result declaring Senator Sahabi Yau Kaura the winner.

He, however, maintained that the majority of the panel members had jointly collated the results and officially declared him the winner of the exercise.

The senator described the alleged abduction of the panel chairman as an attempt to truncate democracy, insisting that the electorate would not accept such an action.

He also dismissed claims by his opponents challenging his emergence, describing any purported declaration of another candidate as invalid and without effect.

According to him, APC members came out en masse to exercise their democratic rights by electing him as the party’s senatorial candidate for the 2027 general election.

Kaura expressed appreciation to party members and other stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, promising to represent the interests of Zamfara North Senatorial District effectively at the National Assembly.

He urged APC stakeholders at all levels to respect the wishes of the electorate in the district and recognise the announcement made by the majority members of the party’s primary election committee.
