KANO: Sanusi II hails Tinubu for recognising emirship issue as local matter, not getting involved
By KEMI KASUMU
His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was recently reinstated as the 16th Emir of Kano, has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu was involved in his return to power.
This clarification came after Kano’s Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, officially reinstated Sanusi following the enactment of the new Kano Emirate Council Law.
The updated legislation, known as the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024, rescinded the 2019 law that had initially removed Sanusi from his position and divided the Kano emirate into five regions.
In an interview with Television Continental (TVC), Alhaji Sanusi II expressed gratitude to Tinubu for recognizing the Kano issue as a local matter and resisting external pressure.
He pointed out that his previous dethronement was unjust, based on “unsubstantiated allegations,” and that his reinstatement corrected the injustices done to the people and traditions of Kano.
Sanusi attributed his reinstatement to principles of justice and non-interference, thanking Tinubu for respecting the constitution and avoiding federal involvement.
He reportedly remarked, “I would also like to express my thanks to his excellency Alhaji Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu without whose principled stance of non-interference in the internal affairs of the state, this would not have been possible.“
“The president has shown that he is a respecter of the constitution and the separation of powers, he recognises that this is a purely local matter and that the government has a responsibility to do what is right for the state.“
“I’m aware that he has resisted all pressure to get the federal government to be involved.“
