Kano Gov reopens Informatics Institute, unveils 50 housing units

By BASHIR ADEFAKA

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reopened the state’s Informatics Institute in Kura, originally established by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso during his second tenure.

In a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor’s Spokesman,  dated September 20, 2024 and sent to The DEFENDER on Fruday,  Governor Abba Yusuf described the reopening of the Institute as pivotal, re-igniting the flames of innovation, technology and education in Kano State.

The Governor highlighted that the Institute, founded in 2012, was envisioned as a hub for learning, innovation and skills development in information technology, with the aim of training youth in the digital skills necessary to compete in today’s rapidly evolving global digital economy.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with success of the Institute’s graduates, many of whom have made significant strides in their careers across various parastatals, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and companies nationwide.

He lamented the previous administration’s neglect of the Institute, which resulted in the loss of valuable opportunities to equip thousands of youth with IT skills, a fundamental pillar of the modern economy.

He announced that 250 beneficiaries had been enrolled in the Institute’s latest training program, where they would receive three months of instruction in various IT skills, gaining both essential knowledge and practical experience in key areas of information technology.

To further improve staff welfare, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf revealed that the government had secured 50 additional 3-bedroom and 2-bedroom housing units from the Federal Mortgage Bank, complementing the existing staff quarters.

He urged all stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring that the Institute achieves its full potential, empowering the youth and securing a future for Kano State marked by technological innovation, economic growth, and limitless opportunities.
