Kano Gov flags off multi-billion naira projects

Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday, flagged off the construction of three-layer bidges worth N27 billion in the state.

According to a statement by his Director General Media and Publicity, Mallam Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the three projects include the interchange bridge at Dan’agundi junction and clover leaf overpass bridge at Tal’udu roundabout all in Kano metropolis.

During the flag off ceremony, Governor Yusuf said the projects, which are major construction works, were initiated to reduce traffic congestion and ease travel for people in the state.

They are also designed to beautify the Kano city, control pollution and develop infrastructure and assent based in the ancient city.

At the event, Governor Abba Yusuf reiterated the commitment of his administration to infrastructure development and determination to deliver more dividends of democracy especially for the downtrodden.

He said Kano, as a mega city with 10 million urban dwellers, deserves massive infrastructural transformation to cater for their need and improve the socio-economic well-being of resident population.

According to the governor, the 2024 budget he already signed into law gives priority to capital projects taking the lion share of 60 percent.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf called on the contractors handling the projects to ensure timely completion, adhere to the contract provisions, use of quality materials as he said the government would not condone sub-standard work.

The governor cleared the air on the financing of the projects, saying that it has been the tradition from his predecessors to finance such gigantic projects through the joint-account managed by the state and local governments.

He appealed to the people using the project routes and those close to the sites to exercise patience over the inconveniences the projects will pose to them, assuring them that plans were underway to create alternative routes for easy flow of traffic.
