KADUNA: Your accusations against El-Rufai ‘unfair and irresponsible’, ex-Aides hit Gov Sani, Assembly
By KEMI KASUMU
Former aides of ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have defended him against allegations made by the current administration of Governor Uba Sani.
The ex-officials, while not denying that their principal secured loans but for the purpose of developing Kaduna State, reportedly stated that the present administration is utilizing foreign loans that were secured by El-Rufai’s government.
They refuted claims that the El-Rufai administration mismanaged those funds before leaving office in May 2023.
The accusations, made by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, suggested that the former governor misused N423 billion in state funds, but the aides called these accusations unfair and irresponsible.
The defense came in a statement signed by former officials including Jafaru Sani, Hafsat Baba, Thomas Gyang, Bashir Saidu, Ibrahim Husaini, Aisha Dikko, Fausat Ibikunle, and Idris Nyam.
They emphasized that the loans were not misused and are now benefiting the current administration.
The controversy arose from an investigation by an ad-hoc committee set up by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
The committee’s report accused El-Rufai and some of his appointees of embezzling N423 billion.
The assembly accepted the report and recommended that the current governor refer El-Rufai, his finance commissioner, and other aides to security agencies for further investigation.
