Justice Nwokedi, first Human Rights Commission Chairman, dies at 91

The pioneer Chairman, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Justice Paul Nwokedi, is dead. He was 91.

The late Nwokedi, who was retired Justice of Supreme Court of Nigeria and former Chief Judge of old and new Anambra State, passed on Sunday at his Abakaliki Lane, Enugu GRA home, Enugu, Enugu State.

Briefing reporters on Tuesday in Lagos was his younger brother and Uthoko na Eze Achalla Kingdom, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Alex Nwokedi.

He said his late brother’s burial arrangements would be announced later.

Paul Nwokedi was survived by children including two lawyers among one who is a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a federal permanent secretary.
