IRGC described the latest wave of attacks as resulting in “loud explosions, bursts of fire, and columns of smoke” throughout the targeted areas.
The 70th wave of retaliatory strikes against US and Israeli interests in the Gulf region and beyond targeted more than 55 locations, according to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
In a statement published by Iran’s English-language Press TV website, the IRGC described the latest wave of attacks as resulting in “loud explosions, bursts of fire, and columns of smoke” throughout the targeted areas.
Several countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Israel, reported deploying air defence systems to intercept attacks involving drones and missiles early on Saturday.
Reports also emerged that Iran launched at least two mid-range ballistic missiles targeting the joint US-UK military base in the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia.
Saudi Arabia’s Defence Ministry says it intercepted and destroyed eight drones over its eastern region in the past two hours.
The ministry did not provide details on the origin of the drones or whether there were any casualties or damage.
Iran has been launching nonstop missile and drone attacks on its Gulf neighbours because of what it says is the presence of US soldiers on their soil.
