The Iralepo of Isinkan in Akure south local government area of Ondo State, Oba Oluwagbemiga Ajimokunola Olofin-Adimula (Arulewolasi III) has urged Nigeria sports administrators to go back to the grassroots to discover more talents for the country, adding, “through the inter-house sports competition, we can discover more athletes for the country.“

The Monarch spoke during the 2023 interhouse sports competition of Baptist Secondary School.

He said Inter-house sports competitions are an integral component of any serious academic activity which enhances the spirit of friendship, unity and togetherness amongst the students, whilst promoting healthy competition.

“When they come together in this manner, there is a tendency for them to interact better and keep away from vices and other negative behaviours.”

“Aside from the fact that inter-house sports tournaments focus on the display and discovery of athletic talents, through interactions, pupils also learn and imbibe several leadership qualities such as discipline, commitment, temperance, perseverance, team-work and dedication which are the hallmarks of good leaders.

He appreciated the school authority for naming the White house after Iralepo Monarchy saying it is a recognition of the fact that the school is situated on Isinkan land.

The Iralepo promised the support of the community for the school “It is our own way of showing that we agree completely with the maxim that a sound mind can only lie in a sound body. We will continue to support this event.”

Principal of the school, Mrs Mary Ayeni said the school held athletic activities in high esteem owing to its capability and strongholds in other domains of education.

“Sports make education holistic, if it is lacking, then you are not grooming a balanced individual. Schools skipping such activities for whatever reason should desist from it.”

Mrs Ayeni said the school has identified raw talents, “I have seen some talents here today, we will nurture them to stardom.”

This year’s inter-house sports competition was one with a difference as students, staff members, parents, invited guests once again enjoyed this electrifying event filled with palpable excitement.

The students’ display of uniformity spiced with fantastic formation and acrobatics was topnotch during the march past.

Green House won the 2023 School inter-house sports competition. White House (Iralepo House) came second while Blue house took the third position.
