Indigenous Language Newspapers: FG, NICO to organize 2-day workshop

The Federal Ministry of Information and Culture in collaboration with the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) is set to organize a two-day Annual Round Table Workshop on the 15th-16th of May 2017 for Indigenous Language newspapers.
Coming with the theme, “Nigerian Indigenous Language Newspapers and National Development”, the workshop will at Arewa House in Kaduna, North West Nigeria.
It is aimed at building and developing the capacity of the publishers, editors and art correspondents of newspapers published in indigenous languages so as to keep them abreast of the contemporary realities in the media sector and to enhance their professional skills and competencies for effective delivery.
The event is also expected to portray the relevance of indigenous language newspapers to national development and emphasizes its importance as a potent tool for information dissemination and grassroots mobilization.
Playing host at the event will be the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, while the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, will be Special Guest of Honour.
The workshop, which opening ceremony is scheduled to be chaired by Senator Matthew Urhoghide, will also have the Publisher/Chairman, Media Trust Limited, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, as keynote speaker, the Editor-in-Chief, Media Trust Limited, Mallam Manir Dan Ali as the lead paper presenter and will be moderated by Professor Olu Obafemi of the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria.
