IMPEACHMENT: Zamfara CJ inaugurates investigative panel on Deputy Governor

The Chief Judge of Zamfara State, Justice Kulu Aliyu, has inaugurated a seven-man panel to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct against the state’s Deputy Governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu. 
 
Speaking during the inauguration, which took place in her office at the state High Court Gusau, the CJ said based on the constitutional provision, she received a request from the Speaker of Zamfara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Magarya, to constitute a panel to investigate the allegations against the deputy governor, pursuant to the resolution passed by the Assembly.
 
Justice Kulu said section 188 (5) imposes on her, as the Chief Judge of Zamfara State, to set up a panel of seven persons of unquestionable integrity, not being members of any public service, legislative houses or political party.
 
She charged members of the panel to discharge their duties without fear or favour, affection or ill-will and enjoined them to work as a team in accordance with provisions of the Constitution.
 
She further said the person to be investigated must be given the chance to defend himself either in person or by a legal practitioner of his choice.
 
In his acceptance remarks, the Chairman of the panel, Justice Halidu Tanko Sons (Rtd), pledged that his panel will discharge its duties in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Constitution.
 
Members of the panel are, Hon. Justice Halidu Tanko Soba, Chairman, with Oladipo Okpeseyi (SAN), Abdul Atadoga Ibrahim (SAN) as members.
 
Others are, Hussaini Zakariya (SAN), Aminu Tanimu Marafa, Alhaji Sani Mande and Ahmad Buhari Rabah, while Barrister Sani Tsafe would serve as Secretary of the panel.
