Ijebu-Ode Crisis: 22 suspects linked with violent clash arrested, arraigned in court – Ogun Police

The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested 22 suspects arrested having direct link with violent clash between two rival cult groups in Ijebu-Ode on Sunday 10th and Monday 11th of March 2019.

 

It said the arrested suspects have been arraigned before a magistrate court in Isabo Abeokuta on 4-count charge of criminal conspiracy, murder, belonging to unlawful society and unlawful possession of live ammunition.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement he issued in Abeokuta, the state capital on Friday and copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER.

“The suspects were arrested following a violent clash between two rival cult groups Eiye and Aye confraternities  which resulted to the death of 3 persons.

“To nip the crisis in the bud,  the Commissioner of Police Ogun State Police Command swiftly deployed some Special Units of the police like the PMF, SARS,  Anti-kidnapping/ cultist units to join the Area Commander Ijebu-Ode who was already on group at the scene and their combined operation led to the arrest of the Suspects.

“Also,  in continuation of our crack down on members of these dreaded groups,  some key leaders of the groups have been apprehended and they are currently undergoing police interrogation and investigation.

“Meanwhile,  the Commissioner of Police Ogun State Cp Ahned Iliyasu has given  a matching order to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the case to diligently investigate and bring to book all those who have any link either directly or indirectly to the crisis,  as well as their sponsors as the Command will not tolerate such violent act to go without the perpetrator been punished,” DSP Oyeyemi said.
