I am ready to go back to fight Boko Haram, wounded soldier tells Buratai

One of the soldiers, wounded in action while battling Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists at the North East theatre of operation, Warrant Officer Yahaya Isyaku of the Nigerian Army Artillery Corps, said that he was delighted to see the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Burarau. serve him lunch at a sit-out organized by the Chief Medical Director, 44 Reference Hospital Kaduna, on Sunday July 26, 2020.

The warrant officer said this at the occasion where he and other wounded officers and soldiers were personally served by General Buratai during his visit to them at the military hospital.

According to Yahaya, “We here in 44 Army Hospital are happy with everything here. The nurses and doctors are taking good care of us. The CMD is doing a motherly job here, she is taking care of us.,” he said.

“I am ready to go back to the mission area to fight and attack Boko Haram. The COAS took me to India to get posthetic leg, I got an oversized and could not use it as soon as I get the right size, I am ready to go back to the battle field.

“We appreciate you sir, we are very grateful.”

Also speaking at the occasion was one of the patients also wounded in the battle with the terrorists, Major D.M. Dede.

Major Dede said “It is a rare privilege to see this day again where chief of Army Staff is serving us meals of our choices.”

Apparently displaying boosted morale, the Major said: “Sir you went to the battlefield and served us meal there, we thought that was the end, but you still followed us here and served us meal. When we get well, we want to go back and continue to fight the terrorists. We pray God keeps you to accomplish your vision for our army,” he said.

Responding, the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai said he was proud to be alive to the reality that he presides over a professional military that is filled with men and women of committed spirit, gallantry, courage and unbridled loyalty.

“I am pleased to be here with you today. I have heard the testimonies of a chief warrant officer and a major. I think I am happier to be with you today. I am happy because you are the once that have stood in front between some of your colleagues and the adversaries and you have saved lives of your colleagues.

“I am happy also because you have made yourself the position that your sacrifice is something that one should be proud of. The sacrifice of serving your country. I am proud also and happy you have chosen the right profession. You have chosen a noble profession. The best thing any man and woman can do is to serve a country in this capacity as men and women that carry arms to defend their father land.

“I want to say I am very happy to see you, having met some of you in the field with your gallantry, with your courage, with your determination and loyalty, you were there ready to pay the supreme price and God spared you, you got wounded and you are here in very high mood and this is other why I am very happy to see you in very high spirit. This is the true spirit of a gallant soldier; the true spirit of a patriot and the true spirit of a professional soldier.

“I’m very proud of you all. I’m proud to preside over a professional military, Nigerian Army. I’m proud we have made the impact that several of our colleagues and, indeed, all Nigerians are living in peace though relative, but I assure you that we are much more better living in peace now than five years back. There is nothing more heartwarming than to see the level of tranquility here amongst you,” General Buratai said.
