I am APC member, I like to be addressed as one – Buhari

*What makes Buhari different from Tinubu, other politicians - Respondent

This global online newspaper gathered that Buhari’s statement on Thursday could have resulted from insinuation within Tinubu’s camp over his refusal to let issues of political differences affect his relationship with his allies, who are currently taking some necessary decisions regarding the future of their respective politics just like his successor, Tinubu, has had the rights to hold.

Without referring to any individual, a cast of characters or issues, principles and ideals currently being discussed by party leaders at various levels, the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has reiterated what he said times without number in the past that he is member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The DEFENDER reports that although there had been leaders of the APC who, despite taking the lead in flogging alleged anti-party offenders in the past, were themselves guilty of same.

While such leaders existed at the time focusing on personal political gains and future leaving President Muhammadu Buhari (2015-2023) alone to governance, the Daura, Katsina State born General would, rather than rock the boat with anyone, face the governance he was voted by over 15 million Nigerians to deliver leaving those whose focus was politicking to what they chose to do.

Buhari has been accused by members of the sitting government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and supporters of the president – without check – on various allegations that tended to paint the immediate past leader in bad light.

But Buhari, a three-time Nigeria’s ruler, would rather look away and forgive even as he refuses to let that attitude, of those he left the government and APC behind to, provoke him in any way that could be seen as capable affecting the progress of the party.

In a statement sent to The DEFENDER on Thursday March 13, 2025, the former Nigerian Leader said he remains in APC “and would like to be addressed as a loyal member of the party.”

He says he wants to leave no one in doubt that he would never turn his back to the party that gave him two terms of office and would do whatever he can to popularize it, the statement by Garba Shehu, his Presidency’s Senior Special Assistant, said.

“I am an APC member and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularise the party by all means,” said Buhari.

According to the statement, “He went on to add that at present, he has nothing but gratitude for the support that the party gave him before and during his tenure as president, which he considers as the highest honor, and would never ask for anything more.

“He further stated that the pains taken by the founding fathers of the party to establish a strong party to protect our constitution, and democracy as a system of government are worthy sacrifices that should be cherished and nurtured,” it said.

From our findings, Buhari, although a party man, is a statesman that would never be separated from his responsibility to all Nigerians regardless of political, ethnic and religious backgrounds. “This is what makes Buhari different from Tinubu and that is fantastic quality of the General,” a respondent confided in Our Reporter in Abuja.
