“This is not the first time our people have been targeted. We seek protection and justice. We will not be provoked, but we demand urgent action from the state and federal governments to protect our people and livestock,” Babayo said.
JOS — Gunmen have reportedly killed two teenage herders and slaughtered three cattle in Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Jol village, Riyom Local Government Area, according to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Plateau State chapter.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Jos, the State Chairman of MACBAN, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, identified the victims as Muhammad Sani and Furuk Bilyaminu. He said Bilyaminu’s body was still missing as of the time the statement was released.
Babayo stated that the two herders were grazing their cattle when they were attacked and shot by the assailants, who also killed three of their cows.
The association condemned the attack, describing it as “senseless” and alleging that it was part of a series of targeted assaults against herders in the state.
“As a law-abiding group, we have reported the incident to security authorities, including the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police, and Operation Safe Haven, for immediate action,” Babayo said.
He added that the association was seeking protection and justice for its members.
