Gov Matawalle takes first jab of AsraZeneca vaccine, says it’s safe

The Governor of Zamfara State, Hon. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has been vaccinated.

The COVID-19 vaccination, witnessed by our Zamfara State Correspondent, was administered on the governor in his office Monday by the state Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Yahaya Kanoma.

Speaking shortly after, he called on people to take the vaccine as it is very safe.

Governor Matawalle further said the Ministry of Health would go round the state to all the Local Governments to make sure that all those who are interested would be vaccinated.

He said all officials of government including Federal agencies in the state would be vaccinated also, saying the AstraVeneca vaccine is much safe “without any side effect whatsoever.”

Also, the Director General, Media, Public Enlightenment and Communications to the Governor, Yusuf Idris Gusau, confirmed the development.

“His Excellency, the Zamfara State Executive Governor Hon.Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle MON (Shattiman Sakkwato) has today received his first dose of the Jab Astrazeneca Vaccine injection to formally flag- off the Covid-19 vaccination in the state at the Government House, Gusau,” the DG said.

Speaking after receiving the injection, Governor Matawalle urged citizens of the state to accept the vaccine as physicians have already explained that it does not have any negative effect on human lives.

He said the vaccination would ensure total protection from the deadly disease of Covid-19 as globally acknowledged.

The Shattima of Sokoto also said a public enlightenment campaign has already commenced for the people of the state to accept the vaccination

He explained that 27, 960 people of the state are expected to be vaccinated in the first circle of the exercise,” the DG said.

Speaking earlier the state Commissioner of Health, Hon.Yahaya Mohammed Kanoma said Zamfara State has already received 55, 920 doses of the injection

He explained that the injection is free of charge and that the state government will ensure total compliance with all the Covid-19 Presidential Task Force guidelines in the Vaccination period.

Kanoma further said that the Vaccination will also be flagged off in all the 14 Local Government Councils and the security formation for effective utilisation of the Vaccine.

Governor Matawalle was administered the injection by the state Commissioner of Health, Hon.Yahaya Mohammed Kanoma while the Speaker, Zamfara State House Assembly, Hon. Nasiru Maazu Magarya and the state Deputy Chief of Staff Government House, Dr. Bashir Mohammed Maru, were among the first to receive the first jab of AstraZeneca Vaccine along with him.
