Some Nigerians accusing President Buhari of not having the school certificate to contest for presidential election are becoming an embarrassment to Nigeria’s education system and the nation intellectuals.

These were the words of Ontario, Canada-based Crusade Against Corruption and Indiscipline in Nigeria (CACINI), contained in a message it sent to The DEFENDER on Monday.

According to the message signed by its President, Mr. Waheed Seriki, CACINI said it was becoming a disgrace to Nigeria as a nation that some of the so-called university graduates among the politicians, political leaders and their supporters in the country cannot read and interpret simple aspect of the constitution which stated that “to contest for the post of the  president, one must have a minimum of secondary school certificate”.

“Some politicians were subjecting Nigeria education system and the country military training institution to ridicule by their inability to interpret electoral law which states that minimum education to contest for the post of president in the country is secondary school certificate and blackmailing President Muhammadu Buhari saying he does not have the minimum qualification to contest as the president.

“President Muhammadu Buhari’s training and education at Military Academy in Nigeria which is equivalent to first university degree already above the minimum secondary school certificate or equivalent, INEC requires from each contestant.

“Also, his military training in prestigious and famous War College in USA was an equivalent of recognised master’s degree all over the world.

“It is very difficult to explain the level of the competency and intellectual capability of politicians, who are ignorantly claiming that the President, who went to Nigeria Military Academy where there qualification is equal to University first degree and prestigious America War College where awarded certificate is equivalent to master’s degree all over the world, does not have minimum qualification of secondary school certificate or equivalent  to contest for the presidential election in Nigeria.

“Nigerian politicians must desist from playing politics that will be subjecting the country to ridicule in the world education. They should not let their greediness and desperation for power lead them to the situation that will make Nigerian intellectuals look like a nonentity that cannot interpret simple English.

“It is an embarrassment to Nigerians all over the world if those that are aspiring to be our leaders cannot differentiate between ‘one must have secondary school certificate and one must have minimum of secondary school certificate”, CACINI warned.
