FG signs $1.9bn Kano-Maradi railway project

Nigeria’s Federal Government’s infrastructural development continues with its signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Mota- Engil Group for the construction of US$1.959 billion Kano-Maradi Standard Gauge Railway lines.

By implication, the project that will link the whole country by rail has been given executive approval.

The Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, signed the document on Monday in Abuja.

The new railway corridor will run through three states: Kano, Jigawa and Katsina and through Niger territory as far as Maradi.

Other cities to be linked by the rail are Danbatta, Kazaure, Daura, Mashi, Katsina and Jibiya.

The roject is to be completed within 3 years.
