The Federal Government has extended the deadline issued to all telecommunications operators in the country to block all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) without National Identification Number (NIN).

“Three (3) weeks extension for subscribers with NIN from 30th December, 2020 to 19th January, 2021…”

“Six (6) weeks extension for subscribers without NIN from 30th December, 2020 to 9th February, 2021…”

It will be recalled earlier on Monday had published an article through which issues were raised about how “sabotaging handlers and nonchalant citizenship” were responsible for why the government should review the deadline to an extension of three weeks.

According to the article, whereas five years of Buhari administration should have been enough for people to register and obtain their NINs, some officials charged with the duties sabotage the process by creating unnecessary queues thus extorting citizens to fees between N3,000 and N6,000 thus demoralizing them from partaking effectively.
