The Federal Executive Council has approved N15.7 billion for the construction of a road that runs through Enugu to Anambra state in the Southeast geopolitical zone of the country.

The approval of the contract which was first awarded in 2012 at N10.3bn was announced yesterday, at the end of the council meeting presided over by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House Villa, Abuja.

Briefing newsmen on outcome of the meeting, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola said the contract was stalled due to lack of funding.

“The contract was awarded in 2012 and they were spurs off the Enugu-Onitsha Highway to six different communities, Ebenebe, Agba, Umana-Ndiagu, Nkpodu, Ekeagu and Ugwuoba.

“There were failures in the implementation as we inherited it; there was also the need to provide for erosion control measures and drains. That has led to the revision of the existing contract awarded in 2012 from N10.3bn to 15.734bn,’’ he said.
