The European Union is preparing a fourth package of sanctions against Russia aimed at further economic isolation of Moscow.

This was stated on Friday by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference following the informal EU summit in Versailles.

“We will now introduce a fourth package of sanctions that will further isolate Russia from the global economic system,” she said.

Von der Leyen said the three rounds of sanctions already imposed on Russia have hit the Russian economy hard and isolated it, and the EU will move on if hostilities continue.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to the appeal of the leaders of the Donbass republics with a request for help.

The Russian leader stressed that Moscow’s plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories.

After that, the US, EU, UK, as well as a number of other states imposed sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities.
