Edo police rescue victims, arrest 2 suspects

Edo State Police, Egba Division, rescued two victims of abduction and arrested two suspects, on Saturday, following a crime committed on Friday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bello Kontong, stated in a press release that the action took place when suspected kidnappers approached a vehicle conveying a corpse from Lagos to Imo on the Benin-Lagos highway and kidnapped three occupants of the vehicle.

The police spokesman further stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP John Emmanuel, mobilised operatives and local vigilance group immediately after receiving the information.

On reaching the site where the kidnappers have escape to, after hours of searching for them, they opened fire on the operatives ,in return the police engaged them in a gun duel, which made the suspect abandoned the victims they have abducted.

“Two of the suspects, Mohammed Ishaku (Twenty five) and Mubarak Wada (Twenty Six), were arrested while others escaped into the thick forest with bullet wounds”.

“Three locally made guns, two live cartridges, two cutlasses and some charms were also recovered from the suspects’’.

He added that two other victims were rescued alongside the three victims that had been rescued earlier.

He added that efforts is in progress to arrest the fleeing gang members.
