Former Chief Press Secretary to the President, during the military regime of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Chief Duro Onabule, is dead.

The Journalism veteran died on Tuesday August 16, 2022 at the age of 83.

A close associate to Onabule’s family Eric Teniola broke the news of death of the late giant of the Fourth Estate.

“Chief Duro Dnabule died this evening,” another family source reportedly said.

The cause of his death is unknown at the time of filing this report as sources close to him said he was seen hale and hearty few days ago.

Onabule was the National Editor of National Concord from 1984 to 1985 and later became Chief Press Secretary to Babangida with whom he served for as long the over eight years of his administration of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

During the first tenure of the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the late Onabule was appointed Chairman of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in April 2017 with other members of the board appointed to work with him namely; Dr. Steve Egbo as Director, Administration and Training; Mr. Abdul Hamid Salihu Dembos, Director, Marketing; Mr. Mohammed Labbo, Director, News; Mrs. Fatima M. Barda, Director, Finance; Mr. Stephen Okoanachi, Director, Engineering; and Mr. Wole Coker, Director, Programmes.
