CP Erale expressed concern over the growing challenges of cultism and drug abuse, soliciting the monarch’s support in protecting communities from their destructive consequences.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, has continued his familiarisation tour of the state with courtesy visits to the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Major General Felix A. Mujakperuo (Rtd), and the Sapele Area Command, where he charged police officers to uphold professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights.

The Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the Commissioner also engaged community stakeholders on strategies to strengthen security and improve police-community relations.

During his visit to the palace of the Orodje of Okpe, the Commissioner paid homage to the monarch, sought his royal counsel and acknowledged his wealth of experience as a retired senior military officer.

CP Erale expressed concern over the growing challenges of cultism and drug abuse, soliciting the monarch’s support in protecting communities from their destructive consequences.

He also reiterated his directive that cases of sexual offences must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, warning against attempts to resolve such criminal matters through informal settlements.

Addressing security concerns ahead of the ember months and forthcoming elections, the Commissioner assured the monarch of adequate security coverage, political neutrality and zero tolerance for electoral malpractice.

Responding, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom and Chairman of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, Major General Mujakperuo, described the people of Okpe as peace-loving and expressed delight at the posting of CP Erale to Delta State.

The monarch pledged his support for the new police leadership, promising to encourage other traditional rulers to strengthen collaboration with the Police in tackling crime and maintaining peace.

He also expressed confidence in the Commissioner’s ability to address the security challenges confronting the state.

At the Sapele Area Command, CP Erale addressed officers and men, emphasising the need for discipline, professionalism, respect for human rights and intelligence-led policing in the discharge of their duties.

He urged them to maintain high standards of conduct, assuring that effective policing must be anchored on accountability, respect for the rights of citizens and strict adherence to the rule of law.

The Commissioner also called on community stakeholders to deepen their collaboration with the Police through timely intelligence sharing and active participation in crime prevention.

He stressed that security was a collective responsibility requiring sustained cooperation between the Police, traditional institutions and members of the public.

The familiarisation tour, according to the command, is aimed at strengthening institutional relationships, assessing operational activities and reinforcing partnerships with traditional rulers and other stakeholders towards ensuring a safer Delta State.
