Nigeria’s most sensation-free and generally patriotic newspaper online, The DEFENDER, has been recognized and accredited by the Defence Headquarters to cover the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in the country.

The process for the recognition and accreditation started with Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar during his time as Director of Defence Information (DDI) but has now been concluded by the current Director of Defence Information (DDI), Major General Enenche, who handed the Press Accreditation tag to the Abuja Correspondent of the online newspaper, Miss Florence Israel, on Wednesday.

By the brief of the DHQ, The DEFENDER will be automatically recognized by all the forces on advice of the Defence Headquarters and the forces include the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Police Force and the Department for State Service (DSS).

The DEFENDER had been told once by the former DDI, Abubakar, that its patriotic attitude to journalism was capable of enabling the military end the war against Boko Haram in short time if supported by other media.

In the meantime, management of The DEFENDER, in reacting to the latest development by the Defence Headquarters has described the recognition of its little over one year media intervention as sign that good and patriotic efforts are watched closely and would never be let go unrewarded with goodness.

It assured the nation and particularly the Nigerian Military that it would not renege on its commitment to supporting the backbone of the nation that the Nigerian Armed Forces represent.
