“You gave us Edolites the right to choose whoever we wanted as Governor, despite it being an off-cycle election. What we later saw after you left was full of impunity that has continually brought us public disgrace. Rest on, great General.”

Israel DMW, logistics manager and aide to Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has praised the late former President Muhammadu Buhari over the conduct of the 2024 Edo State governorship election.

Israel, in an Instagram post on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, shared a video of Buhari, commending him for what he described as a free and credible election that allowed the people of Edo State to choose their preferred governor.

He also criticised what he perceived as a deterioration in the conduct of politics in the state after Buhari left office.

Israel wrote, “General Muhammadu Buhari, at least, you conducted a very free and credible election in Edo State while in power. You gave us Edolites the right to choose whoever we wanted as Governor, despite it being an off-cycle election. What we later saw after you left was full of impunity that has continually brought us public disgrace. Rest on, great General.”

The post came hours after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, reportedly disclosed at a public forum how he worked against his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, in the 2024 Edo governorship election.

Okpebholo won the election and succeeded Godwin Obaseki as governor of the state.

Although Israel did not explicitly mention Wike in his post, his remarks appeared to reference the minister’s reported admission and the political circumstances surrounding the election.

His comments have added to public discussions about the conduct of elections, political party loyalty and the influence of political actors in Edo State.

The 2024 Edo governorship election was held on September 21, with Okpebholo emerging as the winner under the APC platform.
