CTC shows El-Rufai’s bail request not adjourned but denied, Richard Akinola kicks

Despite his objections to the lack of transparency, Akinola also expressed disagreement with the judge’s reasoning for denying bail in the case.

Nigerian legal analyst and veteran journalist, Mr. Richard Akinola, has raised concerns following his review of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of a court ruling on the bail application of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

According to Akinola in a post via his verified Facebook page, the document confirms that a ruling on the bail application was indeed delivered, contradicting earlier reports that the matter had been adjourned to June.

He attributed the confusion to the exclusion of media coverage during the proceedings.

Akinola criticized the decision to bar journalists from the courtroom, warning that such restrictions create room for conflicting accounts of judicial proceedings.

He argued that preventing media access—reportedly enforced by security agencies—is unconstitutional, particularly in what he described as a routine corruption case.

Despite his objections to the lack of transparency, Akinola also expressed disagreement with the judge’s reasoning for denying bail in the case.
