Crescent varsity honours Mustapha, Akande, Belo-Olusoga at 14th Convocation

Three eminent Nigerians have been honoured with Doctor of Science Honoris Causa of Crescent University, Abeokuta at the institution’s 14th convocation ceremonies.

The honorees are the Osi of Egbaland, High Chief Bode Mustapha, the Chief Executive Officer, Splash FM, Chief Murtala Adebayo Akande and Banking and Finance Amazon, Mrs Tamramat Mosun Belo-Olusoga popularly known as Aunty Mo.

The institution which prides itself as citadel of academic and moral excellence is the brainchild of the former judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), His Excellency Prince Bola Ajibola.

Representing the Proprietor, a member of the Board of Trustees, Prince Adesegun Ajibola (SAN) said “we must congratulate ourselves for success recorded in building the educational brand that Crescent University has become today”, stressing that the managers would not rest on their oars to continue to raise the bar of excellence.

In his convocation address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila announced that a total of 446 graduates bagged various degrees from five colleges namely: Bola Ajibola College of Law, College of Arts, Social and Management Sciences; College of Natural and Applied Sciences; College of Information and Communication Technology and College of Environmental Sciences respectively.

Also, a former Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, Brigadier General Basil Adonke also graduated with Master of Science (MSc) Information Technology along 41 others in the School of Postgraduate Studies.

The Vice Chancellor lauded the honorees for their numerous contributions to education and human capital development. Not less than ten fresh undergraduates have also benefitted from scholarship largesse by honorary degree awardees.

He also saluted the courage of diploma in films theatre and communication graduates majorly from Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) and Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria ( FIBAN).

In a related development, a former Minister of Communications, Barr Adebayo Shittu said he was gratified that her daughter also graduated with a second class upper degree from the Bola Ajibola College of Law. He congratulated the Proprietor Judge Ajibola on many feats that Crescent University has recorded in its close to two decades of operation.

In a related development, at least thirteen lucky fresh undergraduates of Crescent University, Abeokuta have benefited from scholarships in Law, Nursing, Mass Communication and other programmes awarded by benefactors including honorees at the 14th Convocation.

The Proprietor, represented by a member of the Board of Trustees, BoT, Prince Adesegun Ajibola (SAN) had announced in his speech that the trio of the Osi of Egba Land, Chief Bode Mustapha, Banking Amazon, Mrs. Tamramat Mosun Belo-Olusoga and the Chief Executive Officer of Splash FM, High Chief Murtala Adebayo Akande were honoured with Doctors of Science, DSc, Honoris Causa in Political Science and International Studies, Finance and Business Administration for their huge contributions to education and human capital development.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, three beneficiaries were announced by Ibeji Foundation, namely Mujeebat Idris (Law), Mariam Okeleye (Nursing) and Habeebah Ebiti (Mass Communication).

It was gathered that while Mujeebat Idris was considered for the scholarship based on her 2021 Bronze Prize in Commonwealth Essay Competition, Mariam Okeleye, daughter of the late Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Okeleye and Habeebah Ebiti were considered on the compassionate benchmark of the foundation.

Similarly, in a letter with a serial number CUAB/VC/2022/030 dated 7th October, 2022 and addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Chief Bode Mustapha confirmed his sponsorship of five beneficiaries namely: Abdulmahteen Tejuosho (Law), Moyinoluwa Ogunkoya (Law), Samuel Adesina (Law), Zainab Morayo (Nursing) and Ayomide Kazeem (Nursing).

The Vice-Chancellor also confirmed that at least five other undergraduates have been sponsored and fully paid for by Mrs. Tamramat Mosun Belo-Olusoga a.k.a Aunty Mo.

Prof. Gbajabiamila informed that the list of beneficiaries would be made public after due process was completed.

He congratulated all the scholars and charged them on good academic and moral performance.
