The spate of fake news got to an unfortunate peak on Friday with the news that an Abuja Federal High Court had nullified the direct primary election, which produced Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the September 22, 2018 Osun State governorship election.

But in a swift reaction debunking the report, the APC National Secretariat, through a statement by its Acting National Publicity Secretary Yekini Nabena, said there was nothing like that.

While confirming the truth that one Kunle Rasheed Adegoke filed a case against the exercise before Justice Dimgba in Abuja, the ruling Party said it was not possible that the case filed on July 27, 2018 and came up for the first time on September 13 and then adjourned till September 27 for hearing would have been ruled upon when the date of adjournment was yet to mature.

It therefore dismissed the report and assured APC supporters and generality of Nigerian people that Oyetola is still the candidate of APC for the election.

The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to some misleading media reports suggesting that the Direct primaries which produced Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the forthcoming Osun State Governorship election has been nullified by an Abuja Federal High Court in a matter filed by one Kunle Rasheed Adegoke.

“This case is before Justice Dimgba and our confirmation from the Court’s Registry show that the matter was filed on July 27, 2018. It is being handled for the Plaintiff by A.U Mustapha (SAN) and came up for the first time on September 13, 2018 when service of originating processes on all other Parties was confirmed.

“The matter was subsequently adjourned to September 27, 2018 for hearing.

“Based on the foregoing facts, it is impossible for Judgement to have been given in this case which has only just commenced.

“We urge the general public to disregard the sponsored fake news.”

The DEFENDER reports it was also from Osun State that a report broke out sometimes ago of a court ruling ordering the National Assembly to commence the impeachment process against President Muhammadu Buhari, which also turned out to be fake.
