CONVENTION: Wike faces integrity test as evidence emerges after he claimed ADC made no request to use Abuja’s Eagle Square

By OUR REPORTER, Abuja

But, just as Wike denied an application for use of Eagle Square by the ADC, a copy of the application letter to him duly acknowledged, emerged. This has been publicly brought to the attention of his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, by Nigerians who are asking that he either deny the authenticity of the letter or his boss he works for as an image maker resigns for lying to Nigerians.

The controversial Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration, Nyesom Wike, may have entered into yet another image crisis following emergent evidence against his denial saying African Democratic Congress (ADC) did not make any request to use the Eagle Square Abuja for its National Convention slated for Tuesday April 14, 2026.

Wike has been fond of using his office to cause frustrations for opposition parties across sectors under acclaimed order from the above to refuse them use of properties especially those that are supposed to be public assets – albeit paid for – for their programmes and activities in the nation’s capital.

The DEFENDER recalls how a faction suddenly emerged within the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), backed by some of President Tinubu, Seyi, and got a hotel venue said to belong to Wike to cancel its rent on the morning of its inauguration event. In the same Abuja, his own faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – despite openly working against the party in Tinubu’s interest and in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) – had caused chaos trying to use security agents to disrupt vital meetings of the former Africa’s largest party.

After several months of dismissing the ADC as a party that cannot fly talk less of winning elections to defeat Tinubu in 2027, Wike now realizing his projection to be a failed hope is now allegedly using the same constitutional office of the Nigerian people he is opportune to currently occupy to obstruct the progress of the main opposition party in the country. This is considered to be the reason he refused to grant the ADC the official permission to use the Eagle Square Abuja for its National Convention.

The FCT Minister, however, has dismissed the allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it was denied access to use the Eagle Square for its convention.

Wike spoke on Monday April 13 , 2026 during an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja.

“Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development, and I don’t even know which party you are referring to.

“If it is the African Democratic Congress (ADC), then I must say such claims are often attempts to gain public sympathy,” Wike said.

According to him, no formal application had been received from any of the parties raising the alarm.

He stressed that Eagle Square remains open to all groups so long as they follow due process and pay the required fees.

Wike explained that the use of Eagle Square is subject to due process, which includes formal application through the Abuja Investments Company Limited (AICL), the agency in charge of the facility and payment of required fees.

The minister also pointed out that the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome is not under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), but the National Sports Commission (NSC).

“As we speak, no formal application has been submitted to the Abuja Investments Company Limited.

“When the APC used the venue and PDP used the Stadium Velodrome, they complied with the process. We do not deny anyone access if the rules are followed,” he added.
