Barely 14 days after report broke out putting the Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, in limelight for supposedly attacking the All Progressives Congress (APC), some concerned Nigerians have urged members of the public to see such twist of information as handiwork of mischief makers.

Aisha had on October 7 been reported in a national newspaper (not The DEFENDER) to have slammed the ruling APC for its undemocratic principles.

In a tweet, Mrs Buhari said that, “It is disheartening to note that some aspirants used their hard earned money to purchase nomination forms, got screened, cleared and campaigned vigorously yet found their names omitted on Election Day, these forms were bought at exorbitant prices.

“Many others contested and yet had their result delayed. Fully knowing that AUTOMATIC tickets have been given to other people,” she lamented.

The statement by her was misconstrued to mean that she got angry because her elder brother, Mahmoud Ahmad, lost out in the primaries of the party in Adamawa State.

However, one of the concerned citizens who reacted to this development in Abuja on Friday told The DEFENDER that, “What those who quickly picked that tweet to perpetrate their mischief wanted to achieve is to say Patience Jonathan is not the only First Lady that would publicly interfere in the affairs of ruling party where her husband is supposed to be the only face seen and voice heard.

“They should go and know however that Aisha is different from Patience and, as a woman of self discipline and courage, particularly wife of a self disciplined and highly principled man of integrity like President Muhammadu Buhari, I can assure you that Aisha would not mean to denigrate the APC for anything.”

Asked what then was the reason for the tweet in question emanating from her, the source who refused to be mentioned, said, “The truth is you would recall the many efforts and times that Her Excellency had call on women in the country, regardless of their political affiliations, to come out and participate in politics and that she would give them support.

“You would also recall that she held a summit to this effect in the Villa which was even graced by the President, her husband.  Present at that large meeting were women from various political parties and she made her commitment and got the President to please add his word of encouragement to them and that was what happened.

“Unfortunately at the end of primaries across parties, virtually all the women that purchased forms for their respective positions of interest were pushed out of the contest without, at least, making deliberate attempt to encourage some of the women.  It happened in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) so was APGA and APC.

“Madam spoke about APC because that is the party where she belongs and she is trying to voice out for the plight of the women pushed out of the contest without care.  She definitely was touched that ‘When you knew that these women would not be allowed to participate, why did you allow them to purchase that costly forms in the first place?’ That was the reason for the statement she made and nothing else.

“For the story to now make the ‘Breaking News’ in the newspapers, it smacks of mischief,” he said.
