Church as Peter Obi’s political playing ground?
Long before his Friday 12 August, 2022 first-of-its-kind visit to the Redemption Camp of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Shagamu, Ogun State, South West Nigeria, Labour Party Presidential Candidate Peter Obi, whose Igbo youth supporters have made South East a taboo for All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Atiku Abubakar to visit for political campaign, has visited many churches across the country seeking to be installed to fit what Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) want as Christian President in Nigeria’s predominantly Muslim country.
Obi, who had visited Dunamis, The Lord’s Chosen among other churches, left Redeemed camp ground at the weekend and went straight to Methodist Church Of Nigeria Ordination Service on Sunday 14th.
But Nigerians, who believe religion has been used as tool in the division and mismanagement that diversity of the country has suffered since CAN became defacto Special Adviser on Spiritual Affairs to Nigerian President under President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and, with more radical support of Bishop David Oyedepo and other related Christian leaders, are not losing any sleep as they say “when we get to the bridge, we shall cross it”.
