Cautioning Buhari over Nnamdi Kanu’s Re-Arrest: What pattern?

This media organisation would have advised against detaining Kanu but ask President Buhari to treat him like he treated Ayodele Fayose and Femi Fani-Kayode, who are now successfully rendered useless in the scheme of thing by their own mischiefs against the President and his government.  But The DEFENDER will no longer dare such advice because, Nnamdi Kanu’s case is different in the sense that he has governments and traditional rulers funded by Nigeria with the money (currency) of Nigeria to execute his Republic of Biafra project inside the same Nigeria that he calls zoo and has persistently broken and disrespected its Constitution.

The warning against re-arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), will only make sense if it is about commonsense.  But the way it is being done, the Federal Government must not listen to such caution because such caution lacks sincerity and any iota of patriotism.

How sensible can they be, those who only stop at warning against re-arrest of trouble maker like Kanu but leaving out the other side that is the core of the issue? They must be saying that all the atrocities and excesses of the sessionist criminal are in order, which is exactly what the stand of Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar making such warning is understood to be.

But for how long will authorities of this country continue to wait and look without making bold decision over this issue? The government of the day surely looks and acts sincerely and responsibly and so, any positive decision it makes at this time is not only going to be well with the masses of the Nigerian people but also, it cannot be at any point at variance with the law.

However, The DEFENDER is only disappointed that the matter was allowed to grow to this level because the guy, Nnamdi Kanu, was created by governments, politicians and traditional rulers of his region. Else, who is Nnamdi Kanu? What recognition does he have by the British society whose passport he carries? Is Britain not rather delighted that he moved his criminal behaviour out of it and into Nigeria? How come he was allowed to be near warlordship here in Nigeria if not that some people are using Nigerian wealth at their disposals to do mischiefs against Nigeria?

This medium arrived at this position because no youth of princely status like Nnamdi could have grown to being what he has become except that he enjoys the confidence of very powerful elements in his immediate community of Igbo.

At a time the borders of the country are no longer as porous as before and the nation’s banking system is no longer a safe haven for unclean and dubious money transfer, Kanu could not have been thought to be sponsored by foreign forces or aids.

Resemblance of the local sponsorship of his course came to the open when the five governors of the South East region held a closed door meeting with him over Biafra. The meeting could have been construed to talk sense to Kanu’s skull on why he should see the evils he has perpetrated and offences against the State he has committed and use their executive powers to command him to stop or face their wraths. But it turned out not to be case.

Unfortunately, while the governors continue to keep mum over the content of the core of the governors’ meeting with the sesseionist element, an Igbo elder in Prof. Ben Nwabueze reportedly, recently, said he had been delegated by Nnamdi Kanu to tell President Muhammadu Buhari that he would stop his agitations for Biafra only if he would begin the process of referendum for actualising the State of Biafra. The Nwabueze statement was more of fircefully threatening the State of the Nigeria thereby revealing the people who pound yam for Nnamdi Kanu and give him confidence that soup is non-issue.

The silence of the South East governors over the Nwabueze’s statement has been understood to be that they were together with Kanu over his agitations for Biafra and that the Nwabueze’s statement reflects the core of their meeting with the IPOB leader. The attempt by some Igbo elements to wrap the IPOB/Nnamdi Kanu’s excesses as caused by Arewa Youths quit notice is a pointer to the fact that they are far from seriousness and sincerity. They should know that Nigerians cannot be fooled by naked lies as Arewa Youths quit notice is only recent but IPOB excesses and hate speeches started as old as Buhari change regime.

Another reason The DEFENDER arrived at its position on Kanu as creation of governments, political and traditional leaders of his region is, all those Igbo figures, Prof. Charles Soludo, Prof. Pat Utomi, others, announced recently as ministers, ambassadors and governor of Central Bank of Biafra, up till today have neither denied nor distanced themselves from the Biafran leadership’s announcement.

Also, to the watch of all the governors, federal and state legislators, politicians and traditional leaders of the region including his king father, Nnamdi Kanu went ahead and built a security organisation he called “Biafra Secret Service (BSS)” and has, reportedly, been paying them N30,000 each, monthly, claiming that he now has his own soldiers strategically positioned in “Republic of Biafra” to proceed and “burn down the zoo called Nigeria.” These leaders instead of cautioning him are rather warning President Buhari against re-arresting him.

If therefore Kanu is not rearrested, it will further aggravate the national insecurity that the President has solved with his successful outing against Boko Haram. Other Igbo or even Yoruba, Hausa youths will in future form such criminal groups and hold the government into ransom because they know that as Kanu goes scotfree, so shall they too go free.

On a final note, the Federal Government has reached the stage where it should close its doors to all the public utterances of hate and setback igoung on in favour of this IPOB person and say, “Enough of all these!” The Nigerian Judicial Arm of the government should play its own role; get the Nnamdi Kanu’s bail revoked for the security agencies to re-arrest him and his trial should be speedily handled. There is no interpretation by any court that will excuse the IPOB leader from the constitutionally stipulated punishment, except that there are some elements in the arm who, like Kanu and his backers, don’t believe in the success of Nigeria.
