President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Professor Stephen Ikani Ocheni (Kogi State) and Suleiman Hassan (Gombe) for consideration as Ministers, representing Kogi and Gombe states respectively.

Buhari’s letter on the nominees was read by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Wednesday.

Ocheni is to replace Barrister James Ocholi (Minister of State for Labour and Employment)  who died in a ghastly motor accident along Kaduna-Abuja road in March 2016 and Hassan is replacing Mrs. Amina Mohammed, the former  Minister for Environment who is now the  Deputy Secretary General of United Nations.

The President seeks for the quick consideration of the nominees.

It would be recalled that Senate stood down the confirmation screening of 27 names for Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) submitted recently by the President using it as blackmail to pressurise the Presidency to sack Ibrahim Mustapha Magu and Col. Hameed Ali as Acting Chairman of EFCC and Comptroller-General of Customs, respectively.
