Also speaking the lawyer said, “Just imagine Onuesoke saying the presidency has lost control of the country on what he claimed the level of harassment by the national security forces of political opponents. By this statement, this PDP chieftain has admitted that political opponents are actually the looters, killers, kidnappers, armed robbers, thugs and cultists that the Buhari’s government has declared war upon. And I know that the world they are crying to over these are mocking them. If therefore that is what he thinks will drift Nigeria into anarchy in a way he claimed will affect the unity of the country, let them promise him and his party whatever face they present that the Buhari government is fully on ground to contain them,” he said.
Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, has thrown his weight behind the threat by the National Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against President Muhammadu Buhari.
Onuesoke, in a statement released by him on Tuesday, said the president is long overdue for impeachment given his poor management of the affairs of the nation in the last three years.
Onuesoke spoke just as a Respondent, who spoke in Lagos, slammed him and his party for “shamelessly” identifying with everything negative in the country since his party lost to All Progressives Congress (APC) on March 28, 2015.
He said, “If I may ask, because the nPDP are the ones doing show of powers at the National Assembly currently, is the Uche Secondus-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) now member of nPDP? This question is so because, Saraki, Dogara and some of his other members of the nPDP who have shared all leadership positions at NASS to themselves are plotting to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari and quickly these shameless PDP are jumping up for it. Don’t forget these same corrupt politicians still desperate about returning to power rolled out drums and danced when Yusuf, son of this President had accident some months ago.
“I only hope they will not have been digging the pit for themselves in which they will eventually be consumed. I dare them to go ahead team up with themselves as nPDP and PDP and impeach the President, it will then become like the case of a thieve that steals a royal trumpet, where he will blow it, we shall wait to see,” the respondent who as usual would not like his name in print said.
Onuesoke in his statement had said: “If President Buhari is not impeached now, then I doubt if the 2019 general election is going to take place.
“If you look at the level of harassment by the national security forces of political opponents and innocent Nigerians, you will understand the presidency has lost control of the country and if care is not taken, the nation is currently drifting into anarchy and that will affect the unity of this country.
“From the looks of things within the three arms of government, you will find out that the only arm with power for now is the Executive, making NASS and the judiciary impotent and sterile.
“If the level of killing continues at the level its going, I doubt if Nigerians will not be forced to defend themselves and that will be a dangerous signals of disintegration.
“It is even overdue by NASS to commence the impeachment process. The international communities are fast losing confidence in our nation as far rule of law is concerned. We can’t continue like this for another three months.
“Buhari and his executives are above the law as far this country is concerned today,” he said.
But to Lawyer Saliu Jimoh, an Akure, Ondo State-based legal practitioner, the vituperations by Onuesoke, the PDP chieftain is not surprising.
“If you look at this people the way they talk, if you are a person that do not probe or take your time before you accept or act on information, you will think that Nigeria is truly at war or truly mismanaged or that the Presidency of the country has lost control as they speak. But for Nigerians who truly are serious about moving forward always remembering that this Buhari’s APC government has been trying hard to move us away from the grip of these PDP party whose trade is stock is not more or less than corruption, creation of insecurity and impunity, they will never allow them to succeed either as lawmakers or as opposition,” he said.
