BREAKING: President Buhari signs N30,000 minimum wage bill into law
It is yet another promise made and fulfilled as President Muhammadu Buhari assented to the bill approving N30,000 as the new minimum wage into law.
The President, who in the past had assured Nigerian workers of his commitment to giving them a new national minimum wage, signed the bill on Thursday with a call to all concerned to comply.
Speaking to newsmen on the development, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, said by his principal’s assent the new Nigerian minimum wage takes effect from the date of assent.
Enang said, to him, the new wage package was for celebration of the Nigerian workers.
The bill was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly before the general elections, the House of Representatives in January and the Senate in March.
In the meantime, some civil servants, who reacted to the President Buhari’s signing of the bill, described it as yet another great thing to happen to the country, adding that it was indication that the President always means his word having promised to give a new minimum wage to Nigerian workers earlier.
