Breaking: NJC meets, queries Onnoghen, Tanko Mohammed

It was also gathered that the Nigerian Bar Association will be part of the losing team as it failed to talk directly against Onnoghen’s alleged corruption but chose to attack the President, who did his best to ensure that the nation’s fledgling democracy did not collapse through Judiciary corruption.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has queried the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Nkanu Samuel Onnoghen over the allegations of corruption against him.

Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Mohammed, was also queried.

Both Justices were said to have been given seven days to respond to the queries.

While Onnoghen was queried following the allegations leveled against him on his failure to declare all his assets, as stipulated by law, Mohammed, was told to explain why he allowed himself to be sworn-in by President Buhari without the recommendation of the Council, as required by law.

The third most senior Supreme Court Judge, Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour of Lagos State, will replace the Justices if the Council decides to dismiss them.

NJC has also adjourned till February 11, four days to the presidential election.

It was earlier reported that the National Judicial Council (NJC) emergency meeting would hold in Abuja Tuesday morning without neither Onnoghen nor Acting CJN Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed being allowed to preside.

Whatever decision the NJC will arrive on at the end of the meetings, The DEFENDER gathered Onnoghen cannot be legally and morally right to continue to be in office in the capacity of CJN, which is the main interest of the government in the collective interest of the nation.

It was also gathered that the Nigerian Bar Association will be part of the losing team as it failed to talk directly against Onnoghen’s alleged corruption but chose to attack the President, who did his best to ensure that the nation’s fledgling democracy did not collapse through Judiciary corruption.
