*To do same for PDP and other Political Parties

A new dimension may have been introduced to ensuring a saner governing system in Nigeria with a letter reportedly sent to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking to ensure that aspirants are tested and seen to be drug free before being elected into offices.

It was gathered that the Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), wrote a letter to the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, requesting that officials of the NDLEA be given access to conduct drugs integrity tests for politicians seeking political offices through the party in the country.

Marwa said that when it is the turn of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties, to conduct their party primaries, he would also write their national chairmen and request that operatives of NDLEA be allowed to conduct drugs integrity tests on politicians aspiring for higher offices through those parties also.

The NDLEA boss, who was speaking during the first quarter award ceremony of the agency in Abuja, explained that the drugs test is necessary to ensure that politicians vested with important national offices do not use budgetary allocations to go and buy cocaine or Methamphetamine instead of providing needed services for the masses.
