President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Acting Director of Defence Information announced this in a statement he issued, dated 27 May, 2021 with a copy personally sent via WhatsApp to The DEFENDER on Thursday.

Prior to his appointment, the DDI said, Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counter terrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East codenamed Operation HADIN KAI.

The DEFENDER reports that General Yahaya, another fine and brilliant officer, was appointed seven days after his predecessor, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru died along with other officers in a military plane crash that killed 10 other officers at the Kaduna International Airport on Friday 21 May, 2021.
