Blame yourselves for lying against Buhari over Tinubu’s acclaimed inherited debts – Jimoh Jimoh

By BASHIR ADEFAKA
“And out of the ₦87.379 trillion Buhari handed over to him, Buhari himself inherited ₦63 trillion, which makes what Buhari collected in 8 years stand at ₦24 trillion.”
An unapologetic Nigerian, patriotically committed to defending the truth and national integrity, Jimoh Jimoh, has sent a jilter that will permanently silence official and social media propaganda that tend to blame the over N144 trillion debt profile on Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari is the Retired Major General and former Military Head of State, who was able to equate Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as serving military ruler that distant later became democratically elected President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and also got re-elected meritoriously.
The Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, since it shot itself in the foot with hurriedly announced policies of fuel subsidy removal and naira floating against foreign currencies on May 29, 2023, and its supporters across All Progressives Congress (APC) strata have made frantic efforts to shift the blames for the current debacle and unprecedented yet admitted hardship faced by Nigerians on his predecessor, Buhari.
Leaders, who are expected to know the truth and speak straight to it, including APC governors mainly in the East (Imo’s Hope Uzodinma) and National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, have not only failed to do so but gloat in their claims that Buhari handed a damaged country and economy to his successor, their current appointer.
Some of them went to substantiate their defence of Tinubu’s sporadic fresh foreign borrowing with the fact that because there is no money left behind for their sitting principal and baggages of debits inherited along with that, he has no option than to go borrowing.
They have, however, failed continuously, we gathered, to explain or prompt the president to show to Nigerians where the proceeds of fuel subsidy he claimed to have removed for better funding of the nation’s economy are actually domiciled.
They have also failed to tell Nigerians, if Buhari truly did not leave anything including money or means of generating it behind, where Tinubu got the over N1 trillion he distributes as Federal Allocation from the Federation Account to Federal Government, 36 State Governments and Local Governments, monthly.
It would be recalled how some of the government supporters were going on social media particularly Berekete FM, the Abuja-baded no-nonsense radio station, to justify why Tinubu could not supply crude oil to Dangote Refinery saying Buhari took loan that mortgaged the crude oil of the country and the nation left with nothing.
Feeling that although the former President, Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to defend himself and tell these Tinubu’s people off, some Nigerians who can no longer stomach what they describe as disgusting lies against him decided to speak up.
Among them are Uche Diala, an APC member and public affairs analyst and Jimoh Jimoh.
In his clarifications posted via Buhari’s Special Assistant Social Media Lauretta Onochie’s verified Facebook timeline on Wednesday June 18, 2025, Jimoh said:
“THESE ARE VERIFIABLE FACTS. The data from the Debt Management Office (DMO) indicated that ₦56.6 trillion of the country’s current ₦144.67 trillion debt profile was borrowed by Tinubu’s administration as his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, left it at ₦87.379 trillion. – Daily Trust 28.05.25.”
He continued, “And out of the ₦87.379 trillion Buhari handed over to him, Buhari himself inherited ₦63 trillion, which makes what Buhari collected in 8 years stand at ₦24 trillion.”
He then listed out many areas of endeavour and achievements that Buhari recorded despite those challenges and despite his borrowing not as bogus as the ones done by his predecessor – Goodluck Jonathan – and, now, his successor – Bola Tinubu – nothing or little to show.
According to Jimoh, “Buhari paid subsidies on virtually all our consumption commodities, Built infrastructures, Paid pension, Gratuities, Allowances, Salaries and entitlement arrears of public servants like those who retired from Nigeria Airways, plus the benefits of soldiers and Police officers from the South East who fought in the civil war.
“For those blaming Buhari, kindly check themselves properly…,” he said.
