On Saturday 5 February, 2022, Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation and former Governor of Rivers State became the Dan Amana of Daura, incidentally the country home of Africa’s trusted President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, having been turbaned by the Daura Emirate Council.
By the new title, Amaechi is believed to be The Trusted One. I have no questioning of that because, a man who achieved modern day governance in Rivers despite attempts by wife of the nation’s President at the time (2011-2015) to frustrate him and distract his attention, cannot be better called.
Recall that his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari as Federal Commissioner for Petroleum Resources, used his discretion and built first-or-its-kind refineries for Nigeria that no one, 43 years after, is yet to equate. He did more and his boss then, General Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, in the buildup to 2015 general elections, testified to the fact saying he, as Head of State and Commander-in-Chief, had no input in what Buhari did of those refineries as Minister.
Amaechi is also the man that, as Minister of Transportation, has achieved the jinx breaking with landmarks in the railway revolution, similar to what his boss did as Minister of Petroleum under Obasanjo, and which even the worst of enemies of the Buhari government now enjoy in the country.
It takes only a man with a heart as uncompromising as Buhari’s in Amaechi to give to Nigeria a kind of network of double gage railway system that virtually every geopolitical zone of the country has testified to.
Well, to me, I do not encourage anybody to interprete the scenario and context of his new title, The Trusted One. I can only say with time, Nigerians will come to appreciate the “Lion of the Politics of the Rivers” as having more to do for Nigeria as a star placed under the sea but eventually rises to to the sky because that is where star naturally stays and all eyes will see him.
