A notorious supplier of petrol to bandits, Zayyanu Abubakar, has been arrested by the Zamfara State Task Force charged with combatting banditry in the state.

Parading the suspect, Chairman of the task force, Abubakar Daura, said Abubakar was arrested because he has been supplying petrol to bandits through dubious and illegal means in the bush.

He was caught while buying fuel in jerry cans and gallons, which the state government has since banned by its policy that fuel should not be sold to motorcycles beyond N500.

Despite the government security order, Zayyanu Abubakar was said to have been going from one filling station to another with a view to buying more fuel and sell to bandits.

Abubakar Daura appealed to people in the state to cooperate with the task force and provide useful information that would lead to the arrest of violators of the state government order on sale of fuel to bandits as anyone caught would not be spared.

He called on the people to continue to pray for peace to reign and see the end of banditry in the North Western state.

Responding to questions by journalists, Zayyanu Abubakar, who was caught supplying petrol to bandits, said that he was aware that the state government had banned the sale of fuel but that he was pushed into the act by poverty whereas, according to him, he had large family and relatives to cater for.
