Police authorities in Sokoto State have confirmed a banditry attack in Giyawa village, Goronyo Local Government Area in the eastern senatorial district of the state with four persons dead.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ahmed Rufai, told Channels Television that eighteen persons were initially abducted by the assailants that carted away valuables including livestock.

He, however, said seven of the abductees later escaped and returned to their community where many residents have fled for safety.

Though other sources from the affected community claimed that over thirty persons were abducted, the police maintained that only eleven persons were still with the attackers.

The security agency said their personnel are on the trail of the assailants and are making efforts to ensure normalcy is restored to the affected community and environs.
