*Says joint efforts of Govs Matawalle, Zulum yielding fruitful results

Former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has commended the efforts of Governor of Zamfara State, Hon. Mohammed Bello Matawalle, in fighting armed banditry and other  heinous crimes in the state.
 
According to our Zamfara State Correspondent, Sheriff made the commendation when he paid a visit to the Governor at Government House, Gusau, on Wednesday, to commiserate with government and people of Zamfara State over the loss of lives and property arising from the activities of bandits.
 
The former Borno State Governor, who is a foremost Candidate for the National Chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the forthcoming National Convention of the party slated for 26 February, 2022, said the peace accord and reconciliation process earlier initiated by the Governor Matawalle had made Northern states enjoy relative peace.
 
He pointed it out that the other measures taken recently by the governor against all terrorists’ enclaves would now further clear the way for peace and tranquility to reign in the state.
 
Ali Modu Sheriff informed the Governor that the vision and tenacity put in place by his administration have resulted in the success being recorded in fighting terrorism and the upliftment of the people of the state.
 
The two-term governor of North East most strategically located state of Borno, who hailed Governor Bello Matawalle for the infrastructural development recorded in the state, said the governor had changed the fortunes of Zamfara State by transforming the state to an enviable position within a short time.
 
He noted that Borno and Zamfara states share similar problems of terrorist attack, pointing out that the efforts put in place by both Governor Matawalle and Governor Zulum are yielding fruitful results.
 
He, thereafter, prayed to Allah Almighty to forgive those who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks and grant their families the fortitude to bear the losses.
 
The APC national chairmanship candidate called on  people of the state to intensify prayers for an end to the menace of banditry and terrorism as the government cannot do it alone.
 
Responding, Governor Mohammed Bello Matawalle thanked the former Governor of Borno State and APC chieftain for finding time to visit Zamfara State to commiserate with the people and government, despite his tight schedules.
According to a statement by Jamilu Iliyasu Birnin-Magaji, Press Secretary to Governor, Governor Matawalle, agreeing with Sheriff that Borno and Zamfara states share similar problem of terrorist attacks, said efforts are being made on daily basis and believed that with support and intense prayers of the people, the problem would be a thing of the past.
 
The Shettima of Sokoto, who briefed his visitor and his entourage on the scenario of problem in the state and how he inherited it from the previous administration, said his administration had from inception put in place measures of tackling the insecurity in the state, and hoped that “with God’s intervention, we shall triumph”.
