Asari Dokubo alleges Olu of Warri, others receive N2.7trn pipeline contracts

He questioned why Tompolo had come under criticism over the contracts when, according to him, other individuals were allegedly receiving larger sums for similar services.

Niger Delta activist, Asari Dokubo, has alleged that the Olu of Warri and some other individuals are benefiting from pipeline surveillance contracts reportedly worth N2.7 trillion annually.

Dokubo reportedly made the allegation in a video circulating online while defending former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, over his involvement in pipeline surveillance contracts.

He questioned why Tompolo had come under criticism over the contracts when, according to him, other individuals were allegedly receiving larger sums for similar services.

“So, because I am fighting for freedom, the Olu of Warri can do a contract and have money, but Tompolo cannot do the contract and have his own money. I cannot do it,” Dokubo said.

He specifically alleged that the Olu of Warri and Osahon Idahosa, whom he identified as the son of Captain Osa, were receiving N2.7 trillion annually for pipeline protection.

“You are talking about Tompolo. What of the Olu of Warri and Osahon, son of Captain Osa, who are collecting N2.7 trillion annually for guarding pipelines? Why did you call them out?” he asked.

Dokubo further claimed that the alleged beneficiaries were not being subjected to the same level of criticism because of their ethnic backgrounds.

“They are collecting N2.7 trillion a year. You are calling Tompolo, who is collecting less. I’m not in that contract,” he said.

The activist also argued that pipeline surveillance contracts in the Niger Delta should benefit people and businesses from the region rather than individuals or companies from other parts of the country.

According to him, contracts awarded to outsiders would ultimately become the private wealth of the beneficiaries rather than resources belonging to the Niger Delta.

“So, other people from other regions should come and take the contract. When they take it, when Arthur Eze takes that contract, it is not Niger Delta money; it is Arthur Eze’s money,” Dokubo said.

He also claimed that he recently saw a vessel operating in Nigerian waters bearing the initials “OUK”, which he associated with former Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu.

“Yesterday, I saw a vessel. On it was written ‘OUK’, Orji Uzor Kalu, operating in our waters,” he added.

Dokubo did not provide documentary evidence in the video to substantiate the alleged N2.7 trillion annual contract figure or his other claims.

The allegations could not independently be verified from the information available.
