*Says their actions derogatory to Nigeria’s image
*Adds: Senators behaving they are above the law
…can commit crimes without consequences
The Nigerian Police Force has been asked to arrest Senator Dino Melaye, Senator Ben Bruce for staging kidnap to make the Kogi senator dodge appearance in court for his criminal trials.
Battles Against Corruption in Nigeria (BACN), under the leadership of Mr. Waheed Seriki, made this call in a letter to The DEFENDER from Canada on Saturday.
The group, according to the letter, said the behaviours of some senators in the country are becoming unbearable and detrimental to the established political institution in Nigeria.
“The irresponsible and indiscipline members of Nigeria National Assembly need to be curtailed before they completely mess up government institutions in Nigeria
“Having been getting away with ridiculing the executive arm of government with all sorts of drama to escape justice, the indiscipline Senator Melaye of Kogi State and their allies, now turn their drama to the country’s judiciary by setting up his fake kidnap to escape from appearing in court for gunrunning allegation case against him.
“Dino’s behaviour is an act of irresponsibility of a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria and, apart from the fact that they are embarrassing the legislative arm of government, Melaye and his colleagues are becoming a disgrace and embarrassment to Nigeria and they are tarnishing the image of nation both home and abroad.
“Melaye and his caucus are turning Nigeria into ridicule and behaving like they are God and untouchable. They behave and act as if whatever they do in Nigeria, they will get away with it. What Dino Melaye, his brother and Senator Ben Bruce did by staging this kidnap, so that he will not appear in court for the gunrunning case against the Kogi senator is a criminal offence and it should be treated as such.
“The police should arrest and detain Senator Melaye until his new appearance date in court to prevent him from escape from the country and justice because, his action is an indication that he has skeleton in his cupboard and he is trying to run away from the country to escape justice over his crime.
“Apart from gunrunning case, Senator Melaye should also be prosecuted by the police for perjury, lying to escape appearance in court. His brother and Senator Ben Bruce should also be charged to court for aiding Dino’s criminal act of staged kidnap.
“It is high time Nigerians should rise up and stop the nonsense perpetuated by irresponsible and hooligans in Nigeria politics. These people are embarrassing and disgracing Nigerians, home and abroad. Dino Melaye and his caucus are behaving as if they are above the law and as if Nigeria is a lawless country where they can do whatever they like without any consequence.”
