APC hits Saraki, PDP-sponsored Group over “fresh lies”

Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has replied to purported claim by People Democratic Party-led Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) in Kwara State that the ongoing arrangement to rid Nigerian states of thugs and criminals is ploy to rig the coming elections.

The APC in a statement Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said rather than responding to the claim by what it described as nebulous group of charlatans, which it believes was acting on behalf of Senate President Bukola Saraki, it would direct its reactions to their paymaster.

It said: “A nebulous group which parades itself as a Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has made some laughable allegations on some police postings particularly in Kwara State ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

“Ordinarily, the All Progressives Congress (APC) wouldn’t respond to a group of charlatans running errands for the embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki. However, since the group has issued the statement as a decoy for him, we would direct our reactions directly to their paymaster.

“For the umpteenth time, we would reiterate that the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and indeed other senior party leaders mentioned in the infantile statement are too busy with the Next Level campaigns and engagements to be involved in the childish conspiracies and spurious allegations contained in the statement.

“It should also be noted that it is not within the rights or responsibility of any political organisation or group to dictate to agencies empowered by laws how to deliver on specific mandates.

“We believe that leaders, with a modicum of honour, should not thread on the path of cowardice by hiding under nebulous groups to make unsubstantiated allegations.

“However, we understand that people’s fears are oftentimes their own weakness. It is clear that Senator Saraki, the PDP, and their cronies are recollecting their usual practice of manipulating state institutions to achieve their political ends and are now scared of their own shadows. Let it be known that our party, APC, has not copied such dubious template.

“We reiterate that a new and progressive Kwara beckons. Through their votes, the Kwara electorate will decide on the new political direction in the state. Kwara state has suffered enough backwardness and under-development resulting from the selfish grip of a self-appointed leader in the state. In the next election the will of the Kwaran electorate will prevail. Ot o ge!”
