Amosun, Kaka, Sharafa, Animasaun, others gather to pray for late Awofeso, Awolowo’s nephew at fidau

Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, leads other prominent personalities in prayers for the repose in Al-Jannah of the late religious and political figure, Alhaji Safi Abimbola Awofeso, who died in the early hours of Wednesday March 29, 2017.

Represented at the function by Member Ogun State House of Assembly, Honourable Olayinka Mafe, Governor Amosun was joined by former Deputy Governor of Ogun State and a Member of the Nigeria’s Seventh Senate, Senator Adegbenga Kaka, former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Alhaji Sarafa Tunji Ishola, former Chairman, Editorial Board of Vanguard Newspapers, Alhaji Kola Animasaun and very many other personalities including Afenifere chieftain Ayo Adebanjo and Ambassador Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, who led the Awolowo family side to the fidau of the late son of her later father’s blood sister.

Standing in for the Chief Imam of Remo Land Sheikh Omoba Adeyemi Allison at the fidau event, Alhaji Quadri Junaid warned that people should learn from the legacy left behind by Alhaji Abimbola Awofeso to shape their religious and political lives.

Alhaji Junaid, who is Deputy Chief Imam of Remo Land, prayed that Allah would repose the gentle soul of the late Awofeso in Al-Jannah.  He was supported at the occasion by Chief Imam of Sabo Shagamu Muslim Community, Alhaji Daud, Amir, Muslim Youth of Shagam u Land, Alhaji Musbau Quasim and other clerics.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun, through his representative, Mafe, presented a cash gift of N1 million to the family left behind by the late Secretary of the Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) while the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly and other members sent N250,000.  Both cash gifts were presented to the family at the occasion.

Alhaji Safi Abimbola Awofeso, a nephew of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, died in the early hours of Wednesday March 29 and his eighth day fidau prayer was held Wednesday March 5 on the field ground of St. Paul Primary School, Ijoku Shagam, Ogun State.

He was 71.

Before his death, Awofeso, a veteran journalist, was former City Editor of the Nigerian Tribune.  Awofeso was a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly in the 4th Legislature.  He was the former secretary of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Ogun State and later became the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before he defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) prior to the 2015 general election.

He however returned to the APC fold in the state and was a member of the party till his death.
