“President Buhari further affirms his commitment to freedom of religion and worship for all Nigerians, and that under no circumstance will any religion or faith be imposed on any Nigerian.”

The Presidency has reacted to yet another re-echo of settled allegation of Islamisation against President Muhammadu Buhari, saying it is not only wicked but also deceptive and ungodly.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, who reacted to the allegation coming in less than 24 to the rescheduled general elections, said the objective of the “unscrupulous” elements bring about the “falsely and wickedly claiming that the administration has an agenda to impose Islam on Nigeria” was clearly to stoke up religious division for political gains.

The President, according Adesina a pastor in Christendom just like the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, affirmed that his commitment to freedom of religion and worship for all Nigerians, assuring that under no circumstance will any religion or faith be imposed on any Nigerians.

The Presidency spoke, just as some respondents described the opposition as wicked exposing their attitude as smacking of insincerity about ruling Nigeria, if their candidate, the main co-contestant and fellow Muslim and Fulani like President Buhari, could go to the extent of accusing his religious and tribes man of having agenda to impose Islam on Nigeria.

Adesina said: “It has come to the notice of President Muhammadu Buhari, ahead of the forthcoming elections, that some unscrupulous Nigerians are again falsely and wickedly claiming that the administration has an agenda to impose Islam on Nigeria.

“The objective is clearly to stoke up religious division for political gains. Some of these same persons made these devious and fabricated claims ahead of the 2015 election. They failed woefully.

“The President strongly affirms the oath he took before the Nigerian people to faithfully defend the Constitution of Nigeria. That Constitution guarantees freedom of worship for every Nigerian. It is this guarantee that enables all Nigerians to practise their faiths or religion without hindrance.

“President Buhari further affirms his commitment to freedom of religion and worship for all Nigerians, and that under no circumstance will any religion or faith be imposed on any Nigerian. 

“It is dangerous, deceptive and ungodly to play politics with religion.”
