Akire of Ikire-Ile congratulates Muslims on Hijrah 1448 AH, urges reflection on prophetic migration

“By the command of Allāh, the Prophet (S.A.W.) and his followers migrated from Makkah to Madinah, where they were warmly received by the people, who embraced Islam and invited the Prophet to serve as their leader and arbiter.. This historic migration in 622 CE marked a turning point in Islamic history, transforming the Muslim community from a persecuted minority into a well-organized society founded on faith, courage, steadfastness, justice, equity, brotherhood, religious tolerance, consultation, and mutual respect,” said the academic turned monarch, Akire Adebamiji.
The Akirè of Ìkirè-Ilé Kingdom, Osun State, His Royal Majesty Ọba Abdulazeez Olatunbosun Adebamiji, has congratulated Muslims across Nigeria and the world on the commencement of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448 AH, while calling on the faithful to reflect on enduring lessons of the historic migration of Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) from Makkah to Madinah.
In a message dated 17th June, 2026 marking the new Hijrah year and personally signed by him, the monarch, who participated in one of the well attended occasions to the effect, described the Hijrah as one of the most significant events in Islamic history, recalling how Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) and his followers endured persecution, oppression, and threats to their lives because of their faith before migrating to Madinah on the command of Allāh.
According to the royal father, the migration in 622 CE marked a turning point for the Muslim community, transforming it from a persecuted minority into a well-organized society founded on faith, justice, equity, brotherhood, religious tolerance, consultation, and mutual respect.
“Hijrah is one of the most significant events in Islamic history. Its origin dates back to the period when the early Muslims, led by Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.), faced severe persecution, deprivation, oppression, and threats to their lives because of their faith (Deen-ul-Islam).

In the message titled, “Hijrah 1448 AH: Reflecting on the Timeless Lessons of the Prophetic Migration”, Oba AbdulAzeez Adebamiji noted that the significance of Hijrah extends beyond physical migration, emphasizing that it symbolizes spiritual transformation, resilience, steadfast faith, and purposeful living.
The monarch urged Muslims to embrace the timeless values associated with the Hijrah by turning away from sin and disobedience, fostering unity, and striving to live in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
“As we commemorate the beginning of Hijrah 1448 AH, let us remember that Hijrah is far more than a physical migration. It represents spiritual renewal and unwavering commitment to righteousness,” stated the monarch who is Chairman of Ola-Oluwa Local Government Traditional Rulers Council in Osun State, South West Nigeria.
Ọba Adebamiji also prayed for peace, prosperity, and good health for Muslims worldwide, asking Allāh to grant them the opportunity to witness many more Hijrah celebrations.
The Akirè extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim Ummah and wished them a blessed and rewarding Islamic New Year.
