The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has secured an interim injunction that restrains the Dr. Boniface Aneibonam-led group members from parading themselves as members of the party, which recently came into prominence in the country.
In a statement titled, “NNPP OBTAINS INJUNCTION AGAINST RENEGADE GROUP OF IMPOSTERS” and dated January 6, 2025, the New Nigeria People’s Party said it obtained an interim injunction at the FCT High Court in Suit No. FCT/HC/CV/5518/2024, “restraining a renegade group of persons led by Dr. Boniface Aneibonam from parading themselves as members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and from purporting to hold congresses and a National Convention.”
In the statement, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Ladipo Johnson Esq, expressed satisfaction with the court’s order.
“Dr. Aneibonam and his co-travelers were expelled by the party, and since then, they have been willing tools in the hands of opposition parties, towing their line on issues and attempting to confuse the public about the rightful leadership, logo, and colors of the New Nigeria People’s Party,” he stated.
Johnson said, “The order of the court also restrains them, their agents, or servants from carrying out or undertaking any official activity for and on behalf of, or in the name of, the NNPP. Similarly, the court restrained INEC from receiving or replying to any correspondence from them or monitoring their illegal congresses.
“We are aware that these former members are being used to attempt to distract us. However, the party hopes that they will appear in court so that their illegal use of the party’s name can be brought to an end,” he concluded.
Dr. Aneibonam could not be reached as at press time for his reaction to the new development.
